Herakles as Hero and the Story of Herakles in the Iliad

In this follow-up to The Concept of the Hero, we learn that to be a Hero, one must also be “unseasonal“. This refers to both the acts of the hero during their lifetime, and their untimely demise.

Herakles is used as a perfect example in this regard, as his name also implies Hero, and Season or Time. A mini language lesson here, the professor packs alot of information into a small frame, making this an easy example to relate with, since most people are at least vaguely aware of Herakles’ story.
